Revolutionizing Urban Mobility: Experience Ottawa’s Autonomous Shuttle in Kanata North Tech Park

About the Project

Building on previous low-speed autonomous trials, this project introduces an extended time frame to cover all four seasons, with a medium-speed shuttle, capable of operating at speeds of up to 50km/hr. the pilot will utilize Aurrigo’s innovative electric Auto-Shuttle® initially in the secure testbed at Area X.O before transitioning to a carefully selected route within the Kanata North Tech Park in Ottawa. By supplementing existing public transport and addressing transportation challenges faced by employees, visitors and students within the tech park, this project aims to explore future sustainable and accessible transportation options.

The Goal

The Project will test and evaluate the performance, safety, and impact of an electric and autonomous crash-tested OEM-based shuttle that can operate on public roads in mixed traffic and at higher speeds and in manual mode or autonomous mode with goals to support the safe implementation of future transportation solutions that could help increase the safety of Canadian roads, protect vulnerable road users and solve transportation challenges in the Kanata North Tech Park within the City of Ottawa.

By supplementing existing public transportation and addressing accessibility challenges faced by employees, visitors, and students, this project explores the future of sustainable and inclusive mobility solutions.

The Objective

The objectives of the Smart Mobility Solution: Testing and Deployment of a Medium-Speed Autonomous Shuttle in Canada’s Largest Tech Park project include:

• Support the safe development and implementation of future transportation solutions; 
• Contribute to the creation of evidence-based transportation policy frameworks for autonomous vehicles in Canada; and 
• Validate transportation solutions for the City of Ottawa and the Kanata North Tech Park.
